Summer Camp Vacancies

Carnegie Weight Management are leaders in the treatment of childhood obesity with a number of successful programmes that provide positive experiences of physical activity, healthy eating and social activity.

The deadline for applications for the 2008 Leeds Carnegie International Camp has now gone. Any applications received for the Leeds camp will not be considered.

We are now recruiting staff for our second residential camp based at The University of Reading. This 4-week camp will run from 20th July to 16th August 2008. The deadline for applications for the Reading camp is 26th May and we will look to hold interviews at the end of end/very early June (date TBC).

Also keep your eyes on the site as we will soon be posting details of further weight loss programmes around the UK. Pay will be £125 to £350 per week depending on position, this includes food, all activities and shared accommodation on the Leeds or Reading site. The roles include:

Head of Programming

Purpose: To oversee the safe and effective delivery of the overall camp programme, including the physical activity, lifestyles education and social programme.

Requirements: A relevant qualification/experience in any of the following: Education, Physical Education, Sport & Exercise, Psychology, Nutrition, Child Development or a related field. Experience supervising the delivery of physical activity and education to children within an obesity treatment setting. The successful candidate must have the ability to meet targets, use their initiative, be able to work under pressure and work effectively as a team member.

Social Programming/Assistant Programmer

Purpose: To ensure the smooth operation of evening activities, day trips and clubs as well as oversee meal times and act as liaison officer with the school.

Requirements: A relevant qualification/experience in any of the following: Education, Physical Education, Sport & Exercise, Psychology, Nutrition and Child Development or a related field. Experience of co-ordinating events for children in an activity based environment is essential. Strong personal skills, sense of humour and good communication will be essential. The successful candidate must have the ability to meet targets, use their initiative, be able to work under pressure and work effectively as a team leader.


Head of Boys & Head of Girls
Purpose: To ensure the safe and effective delivery of all elements of the camp programme, including physical activity, behaviour modification, and pastoral care.
Requirements: Graduate in Education, Physical Education, Sport & Exercise, Psychology, Nutrition, Child Development or a related field. Experience in supervising the delivery of physical activity and education to children within an obesity treatment setting.

Group Leaders (Boys & Girls)
Purpose: To ensure the safe and effective delivery of the camp programme to a group of approximately 20 to 25 children, including the delivery of activity sessions and the supervision of group staff.
Requirements: Graduate or working towards a degree in Education, Physical Education, Sport & Exercise, Psychology, Nutrition, Child Development or a related field. Experience in pastoral care and the delivery of physical activity to children within an obesity treatment setting, as well as experience of the supervision of support staff.

Activity Leaders (Boys & Girls)
Purpose: To lead and assist in the delivery of a variety of physical and social programme activities, and to provide pastoral care to children.
Requirements: Working towards a degree in Education, Physical Education, Sport & Exercise, Psychology, Nutrition, Child Development or a related field.

Lifestyles Leaders
Purpose: To plan and deliver a variety of lifestyle education sessions which aim to provide children with the knowledge and skills to modify their behaviour and manage their weight within their home environment.
Requirements: Working towards a degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Education, Physical Education, Sport & Exercise, Psychology, Child Development or a related field.
