When and where is the camp?
Campers can attend our camp in the north of England in Leeds which is now the longest running programme in Europe. There is a minimum of a 2 week stay. We also hold day camp programme at this site for those who live in commutable distance.
Our approach
There are a whole range of factors that lead to people struggling to manage there weight. We recognise this entirely, so our unique approach focuses on four principles that are the key elements to successful weight management.
- Diet
- Physical activity
- Lifestyle
- Social activity
Whilst the diet and physical activity help campers lose weight on camp, the lifestyle sessions are the key to keeping the weight off so that campers can make informed choices about what food they eat.
Our approach promotes good planning, continual monitoring and family involvement and our results are scientifically proven and is not rivalled worldwide so we know our campers can be successful!
What will I do?
Campers will have an action packed summer that they will never forget! The core camp curriculum covers the four main components that are key to having fun and being healthy:
*Campers go on excursions once per week
We don’t believe in diets!
We are not a fat camp and we do not believe in diets. Diets are unsustainable and unrealistic. Therefore, the food on camp will be the same kind of food you would expect to eat at home.
A qualified dietician will ensure that each camper is given the right amount of food based on his or her nutritional needs so nobody will go hungry! The only difference on camp is that campers are away from temptation and learn how much and what kind of food they should eat.
Sample menu on camp: Breakfast: Fruit juice & fruit: Bacon sandwich OR Cereal & toast Lunch: Bagels and a variety of fillings OR Soup with French bread Sponge cake OR fruit Snack: Fruit Dinner: Vegetarian cottage pie OR turkey stir-fry, noodles & salad Jelly OR fruit
What kind of physical activity will I do?
We are not a boot camp! At the heart of everything, is a belief that campers should be enjoying themselves. Therefore, the physical activity takes the form of fun based games. Remember, everyone is in the same boat, so you can have fun in a supportive environment where the main aim is to have the most fun and to try your best!
You will get the chance to take part in lots of activities you may never have tried before from dodge ball, kick boxing to the camp’s own games such as colour wars and capture the flag!
At the end of your stay not only will you be fitter (on average 20% fitter), but your sports and activity skills will be grately improved so you can be more successful at school.
What are lifestyle sessions?
Lifestyle sessions help campers to understand how food and activity influences their weight and health. Everyone is encouraged to set and monitor their own individual goals. Learning how to make small changes to their own daily routines is the key for campers to be able to continue with their weight management when they return home.
What is the social activity?
Campers are surrounded by people in exactly the same position as themselves, and the staff members who are always there for you.
By staying on camp you get to take part in all the evening activities such as: discos, themed fancy dress nights, talent shows for campers and staff, quiz nights, treasure hunts as well as our very own camp games such as the famous Carnegie International Camp “Colour Wars”! Campers will leave with more self confidence and friends for life!
Does is work?

Will my family be involved at all?

To make sure that campers continue to be successful when they come home it is vital to get families involved in camp life therefore families attend family workshops to give guidance on how to continue healthy lifestyles.
